Halifax, NS (June 18, 2008) – Citizens for Halifax is encouraging members to submit a nomination for its inaugural Board of Directors. Deadline for nominations is Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008 and will be voted upon at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 22nd.
The Board will provide governing direction and stewardship for the Society. As a member driven society, the Board is accountable and reports to its membership. The Board will consist of no less than eight members but no more than twelve members filing the positions of Chair, two Vice Chairs, Past Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and several members at large.
“A Steering Committee has guided Citizens for Halifax from an idea to a society that is gaining momentum,” said Don Mills, founding member. “The Annual General Meeting will be the result of over a year of planning and the election of a Board and key positions will help guide the future of the Society and the City of Halifax.”
Citizens for Halifax is a grassroots initiative, driven by citizens who see that change is needed if we want to live in the most vibrant and liveable city in Canada. Over the past year, Citizens for Halifax has been engaging in community dialogue to understand the important issues and develop key positions that will be voted up on at the AGM.
“Ultimately, we are tapping into people’s civic pride and asking them to get actively involved in our city’s evolution,” said founding member, Malcolm Fraser.
The Citizens for Halifax Society is an independent non partisan organization created by citizens who live and work in Halifax. Citizens for Halifax promotes and motivates civic engagement in order to build the most vibrant and liveable city in Canada.
